Refugees employment rights

The 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) prohibits employers with 4 or more employees from discriminating against any person because of national origin or citizenship status during hiring, firing, or recruiting for a job. Additionally, employers cannot charge a fee to process an application based on the applicant's national origin or citizenship status.

Employers should accept all documents that legally establish an applicant's identity and right to work in the United States. An employer may not require applicants to provide more or different documents, if the documents provided are acceptable under the I-9 form.
